Whew! I've said it once and I'll say it again - time is flying!!
I have been feeling the squeeze the past week to get a lot of baby stuff done. Jessica wants to be involved every step of the way and I think that's completely awesome. But between the two of us, we're not so great at carving out time to do these baby things. I know all the baby really needs is some diapers, some boobs, some snuggles, and some loves. The girl in me wants to do all the fun baby stuff and the Girl Scout in me wants to be prepared (or is that the Boy Scouts)...?
I put a good dent into the mobile the other day and it looks really cute. Time to figure out how to hook it to the ceiling! I can't wait to post some pictures of the nursery when it's all done! I got Jessica to shuffle the furniture around with me and I think we've settled on a good landing place for everything. We were laughing that the baby is not going to care if his crib is on this wall or that wall or if the dresser is over here or over there - totally for us :) I can't wait to get things situated and sit in the rocking chair day dreaming of holding him in my arms.
We start our first of 12 childbirth education classes this week. The birth center makes all first time parents take some kind of birth prep course. Jessica browsed through them and picked which one she thought would be the most beneficial. As a 8 year labor and delivery veteran, I have a pretty good idea how the baby is going to come out. My goals are to learn how she and I can work together to get that kiddo out. She's got a lot to learn about supporting a mama in labor but I have no doubt she's going to jump in with both feet. She wants to catch the baby but I'm not making any promises. If she's busy helping me in some kind of crazy position, she ain't going no-wheres!
How far along: 22 weeks
Total weight gain: Well, I went to the BC for my appointment on Monday and it wasn't too great getting on the scale. +9.8 lbs
Maternity clothes: Oh my gosh - I inherited some dress casual clothes from my friend in CA, Janet, and my waistline has never been more happy at work! Scrubs are awesome but they don't have a lot of give. Momma likes her
elastic!
Symptoms: The heartburn is something special these days. As is the swelling in my hands. As are the kicks and jabs to the cervix. As are the frequent trips to the bathroom. Yup, definitely pregnant.
Stretch marks: I thought I saw one this AM on my milk maker but it was just a sleepy line. The sleepy lines take their time to disappear in the morning - I think because of the swelling.
Sleep: Wanting a little more of it! I'm trying to not complain too much because Jess is definitely sleeping waaaaay less than I am :(
Best moment of this week: Getting the maternity clothes in the mail!
What's new this week: He is 11 inches and about the length of a spaghetti squash (which is unsettling because I like to eat spaghetti squash!!). He's looking like a real baby lol! He's getting some tiny tooth buds beneath his gum - all the better to bite you with! The pancreas is developing steadily and starting to it's job.
Miss anything: Having comfortable hands?
Movement: Holy smokes yes - he's a wild man!
Food cravings: I'm very excited to dive into that cantaloupe once it's ripe
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing in particular
Have you started to show yet: Si
Gender: El nino
Labor signs: None
Belly button in or out: In
Wedding rings on or off: On - but getting a little uncomfortable :(
Happy or moody most of the time: Doing pretty ok these days, just tired
Looking forward to: The weekend and sleeping!!! And baby stuff shopping with G-ma and GG (Jess' mom and grandma)
