16 Weeks

So every week, Baby Center sends me a little email message updating me on what size fruit the baby is and what the baby is up to this week.  It also sends me some anxiety because it says "16 weeks!  24 to go!"  Those numbers are rapidly closing in one another - I'm almost to the half way point!

I've been fighting the urge to buy a bunch of cute baby stuff by shopping on Craigslist.  Craigslist is more our budget and there are tons of great baby finds in great condition and great prices!  I've found a brand new Boppy pillow for $15 - with TWO covers - a bottle warmer for $4, and a cosleeper bassinett thing for 25% of the original price.  While we were having a delightful chat with Natalie, the former owner of the cosleeper, she showed us a soft carrier.  We're going to need one of those!  I can't rationalize spending over $100 for one brand new when here was a perfectly good one, clean, minimally used, and in great condition - for $15!  So, we took it home.  And what did we do with it when we got it home...you ask?

Oh yeah, this actually happened.

How far along:  16 weeks
Total weight gain: +0.8 (next appointment/weigh in Feb 4)
Maternity clothes:  I did a test run on a maternity top Christmas present and it was kinda way awesome.  Plus it was new clothes - who doesn't like new clothes?
Symptoms:  h-e-a-r-t-b-u-r-n...cocktail took on a new meaning tonight = two Tylenol and a Pepcid
Stretch marks:  None
Sleep:  Yeah, I'm not sleeping great.  I blame the brain, not the baby
Best moment of this week:  Having a 3 day weekend!

What's new this week:  The baby is the size of an avocado - about 4 1/2 inches, and preparing for a massive growth spurt.  Eyes and ears moving into final position.  She or she is getting the pattern of it's scalp even though it's not growing any hair yet - please no cowlick, please no cowlick!  The round ligaments are thickening and stretching - and this is quite the delightful sensation....not!
Miss anything:  My sanity
Movement:  Gah, nothing yet!  I'm impatiently waiting...
Food cravings:  Nothing too crazy this week
Anything making you queasy or sick:  So, one of the doctors at the office I work at is a smoker, a heavy smoker.  He gets on these rants and you sort of get stuck talking to him.  Well, his smell makes my tummy hurt.  One of these days I know I'm going to barf right at his feet.
Have you started to show yet:  Yup, it's there!
Gender:  Still feeling boy
Labor signs:  No
Belly button in or out:  In
Wedding rings on or off:  On
Happy or moody most of the time:  Weekend = happy, weekday = relatively cranky
Looking forward to:  Kick me baby, kick me!

15 Weeks

For the longest time before writing this post, I debated putting a bump picture in it.  Sorry, my self consciousness won and no picture for you!  I need to work on that/get over it because there's about to be a whole lot of weight gain going on in this uterus.

Now on to the weekly update - because I've already worked 32 hours at my new job this week and it's only Wednesday.  This mama's ready for bed!

How far along:  15 weeks
Total weight gain: +0.8 overall, next weigh in Feb 4
Maternity clothes: Wearing scrubs to work really helps cut down on the maternity wear.  But I'm still in love with my preggo jeans
Symptoms: Tired, fluffy, and, well, tired...and now heartburn.  Again.
Stretch marks: None
Sleep:  I want more please
Best moment of this week: Hasn't happened yet, whomp whomp
What's new this week: 4 inches and 2.5 ounces.  The baby can yawn and rub it's eyes.  It's getting a hairline, eyelashes, and eyebrows.  (Please baby, don't get your momma's eyebrows).  Apparently the baby hiccups frequently and can hear.
Miss anything: This week I miss a hefty glass of wine
Movement: Nothing yet - I'm patiently waiting
Food cravings:  Got my giant glass of dairy goodness right next to me
Anything making you queasy or sick: Does work count?
Have you started to show yet:  Definitely yes
Gender:  Don't know yet
Labor signs: None
Belly button in or out:  In
Wedding rings on or off: On
Happy or moody most of the time:  Weekends = happy, weekdays = cranky
Looking forward to:  The weekend!

1981 Meet 2013!

When we started planning the nursery, we thought combining storage with changing table would be the best option.  We scoured Craigslist for a decent size/decent shape dresser but kept coming up short.  We finally found a good one and asked my parents for help (and a pick up truck) to go pick it up.  My mom said - "Hey you know, I have this dresser upstairs that I'm looking to get rid of.  You can have it if you want!"  SCORE!  And the best part is - this dresser used to be in my sister's and my nurseries when we were wee sprouts.  It had some fun balloon wallpaper on the back that has now peeled off :(  Still intact inside is the awesome brown and yellow flower shelf paper.  That is staying!

Jessica was a busy bee over her winter break.  She worked her fingers to the bone revamping the dresser.  It was so sweet - she said "The whole time I was sanding and cleaning and painting...I just kept thinking of our little munchkin in here and it kept making me smile"...in unison now...awwwww!  Melting my heart

Although the gold placard knobs and pulls were super groovy, they had to go.

Let the painting begin!!

Now the dresser sat all finished up, with a fresh new bright yellow attitude, in the bedroom for quite some time.  And sat and sat.  What to do for knobs?  We had some ideas - clear bubbly ones?  Animal shaped ones?  Classic old school door knob style ones?  Ceramic ones?  I tell you...there are a LOT of knobs out there!!

And then this gem came along.  The baby's Auntie Casie SCORED these knobs at Hobby Lobby for 50% off!!  Gotta love a good deal!

Are you ready for the finished product!?  Me too!

Well, almost finished - needs 2 more knobs on the middle and bottom drawer.  Maybe they'll get on during spring break!  It doesn't matter.  I have the best furniture painting wife on the planet.

(I don't know why they look so blue in the photos...they are clear in real life.)

14 Weeks

Hmmm - eventful and massively uneventful, all at the same time, week.  Jessica started her second semester of her second year of veterinary school on Monday.  She get's up early, feeds the dog, goes to school aaaaaaall day, comes home, feeds me, then goes downstairs to read...then falls into bed.  She's got a lot on her plate this semester.  I'm sort of glad that we didn't get pregnant when originally planned because we'd have a newborn right now and she's got quite the course load.  It'll be nice for the baby to come while she's on summer vacation.

For me, it's my first full week at my new job.  I get up early, go to work aaaaaaall day, come home, eat, feed the dog, and fall into bed.  Lemme tell ya, we're a thrill a minute.  I fascinate about having a get away together - someplace really awesome.  Like a Greek island.  Or buying, yes buying, an RV and driving up one of the coasts.  Don't matta which one.  Start at the bottom...all the way up.

Now on to the best part of the week!

How far along:  14 weeks and 1 day
Total weight gain: Don't know - next weigh in is Feb 4
Maternity clothes: My one pair of maternity jeans is at the tailor getting an $8 hem job
Symptoms: None really, just a growing belly
Stretch marks: No
Sleep:  This week, not so great.  I have been waking up at 4:30 each morning.  My plan tonight is to whack myself in the head with a baseball bat and seeing if I make it to the alarm at 5:55.
Best moment of this week: Meh.  Nothing super great this week so far.  Been very busy, very tiring.

What's new this week:  3.4 inches long!  Really hitting a growth spurt!  The baby can grimace, frown, and squint.  It's practicing breathing and may already be sucking it's thumb.
Miss anything:  This week I'm really missing big glasses of wine after a nutty day.
Movement:  Nothin yet.  I am so ready to feel that little munchky squirm around
Food cravings:  Still the dairy.  I think about food and I think "OMG that would be the best thing EVER"...to everything.  I've been pretty good not giving in although we did have mozzarella sticks the other day.  Baked, not from restaurant.
Anything making you queasy or sick:  Not sleeping is making me ill
Have you started to show yet:  Yup.

Gender:  Still convinced it's a boy.  Big scan is Feb 7 but I'm not sold on finding out yet.
Labor signs:  No
Belly button in or out: In
Wedding rings on or off:  On
Happy or moody most of the time:  Was happy for most of the week until today.  Just crabby today
Looking forward to:  Friday at 5pm
