Busy busy busy!!!
Since Jessica is a vet student, and a very serious vet student at that, we wanted to get some of the "big" stuff done to the nursery while she was off on winter vacation. This included painting, installing some wallpaper, and a chair rail. It's been a slow process but we're coming along.
A long time ago, we saw a nursery done in grey and yellow (like almost a mustardy pukey yellow). The were also some jungle animals tossed in here and there - but we liked the elephants the most. What a coincidence - they happen to be grey!! AND there are so many super cute fabrics with yellow and/or grey and/or elephants that this just had to be the "theme". Big AND - it's gender neutral. True, it may be a little more masculine than girlie but with our recent dreams and hunches, it'll probably work out just fine anyway.

Here's the progress on the room so far...it started out a delightful blue. It was blue when it was the guest bedroom. Jessica's furniture went in here when she moved in and the blue fit perfectly - also pretty close to that good ole Carolina blue!
Then it magically (ok, Jess painted it) turned
into this lovely dark grey color!
This also happens to be the start of the wallpaper series. We really liked the look of wainscoting but we do not have a real wood wainscoting budget! And we really didn't want to pry off all of the baseboard, put up the wood, and then put all the baseboard back on. But there is this amazing product! It's a textured, paintable wallpaper sold at Lowe's - for a LOT less than panels. AND it was super easy to install. It took just a few hours and the room was looking snazzy.
There's the rest of the room all wallpapered up!
We did a good bit of the chair rail and the finishing details today. Apparently there was a handy dandy way to cut out the pieces so they fit together perfectly but we found the 45 degree angle cuts fit snug enough and they look pretty darn good!
We're torn between tearing down the one piece we did the DIY video way and putting up a new one, or just trying to make it work so it looks good.
I know it's a little early but we're big fans of "slow and steady wins the race!" We'd rather chug along every few weeks than wham-bam the whole thing together in one weekend. I've got to make the most of that free labor while I can. I know the kid isn't going to live in here until this time next year but let's face it, this crap is fun!! It helps us feel like we're actually doing something to prepare for this crazy journey. And we're both chicks. This is what chicky-chicks do!
Stay tuned for more nursery projects! We've got a lot more hand crafted, refurbished furniture, and elephant palooza to come!
